Preliminary round:

Through this round, participants for the first round will be selected. All those who register would be required to complete a Questionnaire. The selection to the next round will be on the basis of performance in this round only.

First Round
16-20 participants will be selected for this round.
On a draw-by-lot basis, a pair of 2 debaters will be formed.
The topic and also which side to speak on for a particular debater will be decided by a chit system.
When the first pair goes up on stage, the third pair receives its topic.
Marks will be given for
Fluency
Clarity of thought
Number and validity of points
Proper use of language

Finals

For the final round, 5 debaters will be chosen on the basis of the first round.
Each debater would be given a separate topic to speak on through a chit system.
Sufficient preparation time will be given.
A copy of the points sheet prepared by the debaters will be handed over to the panel of judges.
Marks will be deducted for straying from the pre-listed points.

Speaking time: around 1 min. per speaker.
After a debater completes his arguments or his stipulated time limit (whichever is earlier), interjections from the other finalists will be allowed subject to conditions of no cross-questioning and maximum 1 interjection per person. If the moderator calls the interjection invalid, marks will be deducted.
At this point, audience interjections will also be taken up subject to the consent of the chair. Only 2 audience interjections will be allowed per debater.

Top three debaters will be awarded. The judgement of the panel will be final and binding on the participants.
